El Valle de Anton

Just under a two hour ride from Panama City, El Valle de Anton is a beautiful highland city nestled within an ancient volcanic crater.  This fertile valley surrounded by cloud forest is the largest inhabited volcanic crater in the World.  Due to its elevation at around 2000 feet above sea level the climate is a perfect 70 degrees all year round.  The local community is mainly descendant of the Guaymì Indian Tribe making it a unique cultural destination with ancient petroglyphs as well as fantastic location for hiking, birding, and shopping for local artisan’s work.

This day begins with a breakfast of empanadas at the local cheese maker, Queso Chela.  Our first activity upon arrival to El Valle will be a hike in the cloud and dwarf forest, followed by a visit to the petro glyphs.  After lunch we will visit the artisans market for some shopping before heading back to Panama City.
